System Description:
The SMRS is a communications system that will supplement and interoperate with other SOF Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) systems.  The SMRS consists of a long-range manpack radio (MPR), a Digital Message Entry Device (DMED) with cable, a battery box with cable, and a tactical/transportable base station (TBS). Ancillary equipment for the MPR will include an accessory kit containing antennas, handset, headset, leg key and Y-cable. SMRS provides secure voice and secure data messaging between two base stations, a base station and MPR, or between two MPRs.  Additionally, the MPR provides standard High Frequency (HF) radios used by conventional forces, in both a Military Standard Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) and non-ALE secure and non-secure single channel modes.  It also provides standard Frequency Modulation (FM) radios (30-60) Megahertz (MHz) in both secure and non-secure modes.
