Extensions
TREs allow a specific user or community of users to include additional and or specialized data
requirements in the existing NITF, while not disrupting other NITFS users. Prior to inclusion of new TREs into the NITFS, the sponsor of the proposed Tag
must obtain approval for it from the NITFS Technical Board (NTB).
