Application Description
Novell Certificate Login (NCL) provides the capability of authenticating to a Microsoft Windows Active Directory (AD) network with the DoD PKI Identity Certificate on the Common Access Card (CAC) or other smartcard. It is based on Novell eDirectory, which is the user network account repository that is synchronized with AD via Novell Identity Manager (formerly DirXML). Through the NCL client, a user authenticates to their eDirectory account with their CAC, and if successful, the user’s AD credentials are securely provided to the client, which logs the user onto AD. NCL is managed and/or administered through a web interface called Novell iManager. The solution also provides a disconnected mode for laptop or otherwise disconnected users, configurable grace periods for CRLs, support for OCSP, a temporary certificate based authentication mechanism for users of forgotten CACs, and the ability to enforce the Certificate Hardware OID policy.
